Lifestyle management to prevent and treat atrial fibrillation.

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia with a one in four lifetime risk in adults over the age of forty. Traditionally, AF management has focused on the three pillars of rate control, rhythm control and appropriate anticoagulation to reduce stroke risk. More recently, the importance of cardiovascular risk factor management in AF has emerged as a fourth and essential pillar with improved patient outcomes. AREAS COVERED Here, we aim to summarize the current available evidence for the association between various modifiable risk factors and AF, and to identify optimal treatment targets to improve outcomes. Expert Commentary: Care for AF patients utilizing an integrated approach and aggressive lifestyle management may reduce the enormous burden of this arrhythmia.

Background: Adrenergic beta antagonists are not sufficient to prevent atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). This study was designed to evaluate the effect of ascorbic acid as an adjunct to beta-blockers in prevention of post-CABG atrial fibrillation Methods: Patients who were more than 50 years old and scheduled to undergo CABG were included if they were treated with b...

We are presenting a case illustrating atrial fibrillation (AF) following the use of methylprednisolone in a patient with pelvic and femur fracture. A 48- year- old man with no significant past medical history, was admitted to the emergency department after injury in a car accident. He suffered a multiple bone fracture with chief complaints of pain and shortness of breath. He was transfer...
متن کاملHow To Follow Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Patients?
Catheter ablation is an established treatment option for symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF), with circumferential pulmonary vein isolation being considered the cornerstone of the procedure. However, this is a complex intervention with potential major complications and with common arrhythmia recurrences. There is consensus among experts that all patients should be seen in follow-up regularly a...
متن کاملUpdate on medical management of atrial fibrillation in the modern era.
The management of atrial fibrillation involves control of the ventricular response rate, anticoagulation to reduce the risk of stroke and attempts to maintain sinus rhythm. The approach to patients with atrial fibrillation has become increasingly complex as therapeutic options have expanded. The ultimate reasons to treat atrial fibrillation include improvement in symptoms, reduction in adverse ...

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the evolving epidemics in cardiovascular medicine. AF is projected to develop in 25% of currently 40-year-old adults, 2 provokes many, often severe strokes, is associated with increased mortality and often leads to heart failure or sudden death even in wellanticoagulated patients. 4 The last few years have seen the development of new approaches to detect and t...
